Past History

 Established in 1838 AD by German Christian Missionaries, the BEM Educational Institutions, located in the heart of the Mangalore city familiarly known as “Mission High School Road”, have been rendering yeomen service to the public in the field of education, irrespective of caste, colour or religion.

As early as on September 26 in the year 1815, Basel Mission was founded by a small group of devout men who met at Basel City, Switzerland. They committed themselves to work among the down trodden and the marginalised. This Mission was named after this great blessed Basel City.

In 2013, the Schools would complete 175 years of starting the first Institution. In order to celebrate this unique milestone, the Society has formed a BEM Institutions 175 Years’ Celebration Committee with members drawn for the Management, present and retired members of Staff.

The first formal School in Mangalore was started in 1836 by the Missionaries from Basel, Switzerland. However, this School was moved to the present site of BEM School in 1838 from where the various Sections of the Teaching Institutions have been functioning.For about 80 years, the School ….
